Minimum
Wage Increase
Just to let you
know that as of 1stOctober the minimum wage rose to the following levels:
Full rate
(age 22 and over) - the new rate is £5.80 per hour; the old rate was
£5.73 per hour; an increase of 1.2%
18 - 21 rate
- the new rate is £4.83 per hour; the old rate was £4.77 per hour; an
increase 1.25%
Youth rate -
the new rate is £3.57 per hour; the old rate was £3.53 per hour; an
increase of 1.1%
Help on the
minimum wage is available from the HMRC
website which has a dedicated National Minimum Wage area.

12th October sees the
introduction of the Vetting and Barring Scheme (VBS)
We are sure
that you are all aware of the introduction of the above scheme, brought
in by the Independent Safeguarding
Authority. This scheme runs in conjunction with the present CRB
system that you all work with. The CRB
website has got a very informative FAQ section which we think will answer
many of the questions and queries you may have. Take a look at it here

Childcare Voucher Withdrawal
As reported widely throughout out the
press the plans to withdraw the Childcare
Voucher Scheme have met with widespread criticism from may quarters.
If you feel strongly about the withdrawal and want to show your support

Daycare Trust Report
The Daycare Trust published a report in
September on the results of the Childcare Advance Project, funded by the
Friends Provident Foundation. In summary, the report finds that 58% of
the parents interviewed struggled to pay the costs of fees in advance, deposits,
retainers etc. Meeting these costs sometimes restricts them from
returning to work. To view a
