Childrens Secretary orders urgent review of ‘smacking’ loophole

The Childrens Secretary, Ed Balls, has ordered an urgent review into the apparent loophole in the law, which allows corporal punishment to be used on children attending establishments who operate for less than 12.5 hrs per week. This would cover, of example, children attending Religious schools or Private Tutors. The Governments Child Safety Office Sir Roger Singleton has been asked to consider the rules on physical punishment and report back to Ed Balls within the week.
