Childrens
Secretary orders urgent review of ‘smacking’ loophole
The Childrens Secretary,
Ed Balls, has ordered an urgent review into the apparent loophole in the
law, which allows corporal punishment to be used on children attending
establishments who operate for less than 12.5 hrs per week. This would
cover, of example, children attending Religious schools or Private Tutors.
The Governments Child Safety Office Sir Roger Singleton has been asked to
consider the rules on physical punishment and report back to Ed Balls

CWDC offer free funding for Level 3 Playwork.

SkillsActive and the Learning and Skills Council, the CWDC are able to

Decline in Baby Places
An interesting article
appeared in Nursery World week
which suggests that many settings are facing falling numbers in their
Baby rooms. The decline, it suggests, is put down to the current economic
climate and new employment rights, such as flexible working. Are you
